Indian Pub Chilli Paneer Recipe

Indian Pub Chilli Paneer Recipe
This recipe will help you re-create this desi pub classic dish at home! From all the sauces and spices used in Indian pubs follow along to enjoy this dish in the comfort of your own house!
Ingredients
For the paneer:
- 450g paneer cheese, cut into 2cm cubes
- 50g cornflour (cornstarch)
- 1 tsp ground white pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Oil for frying (vegetable oil is fine)
For the sauce:
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
- 1 tbsp green chili sauce
- 2 tsp cornflour mixed with 2 tbsp water
For the stir-fry:
- 3 tbsp oil
- 8 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, sliced
- 1 large onion, cut into petals
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 4 spring onions, sliced (whites and greens separated)
Instructions
- Mix cornflour, white pepper, and salt in a bowl. Coat paneer cubes in this mixture.
- Heat oil for deep frying. Fry paneer cubes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients except the cornflour slurry. Set aside.
- Heat 3 tbsp oil in a wok over high heat. Add garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Stir-fry for 30 seconds.
- Add onion petals and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly charred but still crisp.
- Pour in the prepared sauce and bring to a simmer.
- Add the cornflour slurry and stir until the sauce thickens.
- Toss in the fried paneer cubes and spring onion whites. Stir to coat evenly with the sauce.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes until everything is hot and well combined.
- Garnish with spring onion greens and serve hot.
- Serve with fresh Naan (or garlic naan!) and a side of chips (masala or chilli chips also work well here!)
