Desi Pub Matar Paneer combines tender paneer and peas in a spicy, flavorful tomato-based sauce. This pub-style version of the classic Indian dish is quick to prepare, making it a perfect vegetarian option for dinner. Serve with naan or rice for a delicious, satisfying meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 400g paneer, cubed
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 green cardamoms
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 inch piece ginger, grated
  • 1 1/2 cups tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tbsp dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi)
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, cardamoms, and cloves. Let them sizzle.
  2. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree and all the spices. Cook for 10-15 minutes until oil separates.
  5. Add water and green peas. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Add paneer cubes and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Crush kasoori methi between palms and add to the curry along with garam masala.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.

Notes
